Ugh! I forgot… 9 things I hate forgetting
When I’m packing for a trip, I try to remember all the little things that are the worst to leave at home. You can’t pack everything, and of course you can always pick something up at the store if you forgot. But these are the things that when I’m all set and ready for adventure, I realize, UGH, I forgot that ONE THING. This is my list of Ugh! I forgot…
Aloe Vera. After a long day of sunshine, you get out of the shower and your skin is on fire. This is the time when you realize you don’t have anything to cool that skin off. Sunblock is usually something I never forget, but Aloe Vera is just one of those things that sits under my sink at home until I need it. And guess what? It’s still under my sink at home…
Phone charger. These are a lot more readily available than they used to be, but whenever I forgot my charger it was a huge pain. Sometimes I remember the cord without the converter, which basically means I can charge it only in the car with a USB port or in a computer.
Flip flops. I can’t tell you the number of times I put my swimsuit on at a hotel, get ready to walk down and realize the only shoes I brought require socks. SOCKS. It seems strange to have to put socks and boots on just to go to the hot tub at the hotel. Of course, I can go get flip flops, but it’s obviously the end of the day, I’m ready to relax, and now I gotta figure out what to put on my feet. (For those of you who watch The Office, you could pull a Kevin and get two tissue boxes and use those as shoes.)
Ibuprofen. For sunburns, headaches, sore bodies and hangovers, this is the one drug I hate forgetting. When you’re 30,000 feet in the air with a splitting headache, and you realize you have no Advil, it’s just the worst.
Wine bottle opener. You’re at a remote cabin in the hills, you’ve brought snacks and a bottle of local wine you picked up at a store on the drive in. You’re 45 minutes from civilization, ready to relax and enjoy the views. Oops, no way to open that bottle of wine! Enjoy reading the label.
Beach towels. Some Airbnbs come fully stocked with all the types of towels you’ll need, but if you’re staying at a hotel, and you forgot your beach towel, that basically sucks. Hotel towels are usually white (which means bringing them out in sandy, dirty nature is probably not an option) and they’re smaller than a beach towel. So you can just sit in the sand and dry off I guess.
Sunglasses. We have forgotten sunglasses so many times. It’s just one of those things. And when you drive that rental car out from the garage of the airport and are blinded by the sun, that’s the exact moment you realize you forgot your sunglasses. You know, like the worst possible moment.
Rain jacket. It always rains hard when I forget my rain jacket. I have a perfect travel rain jacket that folds up compactly and fits inside a purse. So when I forget it, it’s just really irritating. It’s the only thing that really keeps me dry.
Camera memory. I didn’t check to see how my camera memory was doing before I was out on a boat shooting pictures of my niece and nephew tubing. Right when I was snapping live-action shots, it said “Memory full.” So there I am on a boat, trying to delete images. After going back to the cabin, I spent an hour trying to delete other images so I had enough space to take pictures the rest of the trip.
