Cycling in Cozumel

We were looking for a fun way to get around Cozumel from the cruise port, and biking was the perfect way.  We were able to ride our bikes to the ocean, snorkel and ride back.  If you’re looking for something a little more off-the-beaten-path in Cozumel, consider renting bikes!

We had one day in Cozumel, and we knew we wanted to do something a little off-the-beaten-path.  We wanted to have the freedom to explore the island on our own, at our own pace.  We thought bikes might be the perfect way to do that!

We received two complimentary bike rentals (plus baskets) to try out on our day in Cozumel. Rent a Bike Cozumel provided us with them, and they were a great company to work with!  Everyone was friendly, and their communication with us was perfect.

They texted us an hour before meeting up to make sure we knew where to go and what to look for.  Communication is important to me, especially with activities in foreign countries.  They were great to work with.

The total cost for two bike rentals with baskets for one day is $44.  The require full payment in advance, both rental and security deposit.  The security deposit is a fully refundable $150 deposit through PayPal prior to the rental.  The rental includes delivery and pick-up from our meeting point near the cruise’s docking pier, as well as a helmet and lock.  For people staying on the island (hotel, condo or Airbnb), they will also deliver to you.

After payment is made, you receive a confirmation email with details about the delivery (including photo of location you’ll be walking to) and a Guide to Cozumel.  The guide includes a list of discounts you’ll receive at locally-owned businesses when you ride the bikes.  The guide was very helpful to us, and even helped us find a place to snorkel!

We met our guide at the meeting location, which was about a mile from the port of call.  The terrain on the island is mostly flat, so riding bikes around is fun and not too exhausting.

After we got our bikes, we took the road up to Sky Reef (which was listed in the guide provided to us).  We had brought our own snorkeling sets, so we found a reef to snorkel around.  It was free to snorkel, but we ended up eating lunch here anyways.  The bikes came with a lock, so we locked them up when we went snorkeling.

As we rode our bikes around, we stopped a few places to see the water and the trees.  There are a lot of taxis and people riding motorcycles and mopeds.  There weren’t any moments we felt unsafe.  It felt like a cycling-friendly place!

Thanks again, Rent a Bike Cozumel, for providing us with bikes to enjoy around the island.  If and when I go back, I will most definitely be renting bikes again!  We had the most perfect day.
